Welcome to Baker Historic Neighborhood Association website! BHNA is the registered neighborhood organization for the area bounded by Sixth Avenue, Lincoln Street, Mississippi Avenue, and the South Platte River. View a map here.
The Baker neighborhood is a diverse, dynamic neighborhood located in the urban core of Denver, Colorado. First plotted and developed in the 1870’s, Baker has played a central role in the history of Denver. Today Baker enjoys a number of qualities and characteristics that make it a vibrant urban neighborhood including a diverse urban population, preserved historic homes, proximity to Broadway’s Main Street development which promises diverse shopping, casual and fine dining, and an array of entertainment, as well as access to mass transit.
BHNA is a volunteer membership organization working to build community through fellowship and cooperation. In order to be a member, one must only be a resident, property owner or busiess owner within the boundaries of the neighborhood. This website is a service offered by BHNA to provide a means to inform, collaborate, and assist residents of Baker and beyond. | |

Byers Library, a branch of the Denver Public Library system located at 675 Santa Fe, was in danger of being closed by the City and County facing sever budget deficits. After an appeal from Christiane Citron at the April general membership meeting, BHNA sent a letter, dated May 1, 2010, to Shirley Amore, City Librarian and head of the Denver Public Library (DPL), objecting to DPL’s plans to close the Byers Branch Library, located just outside the Baker Neighborhood at 675 Santa Fe Drive. To review BHNA's position statement, click here. At the most recent DPL budget meetings, it was determined that DPL would not be closing any branches in 2011. To read more, check out the Baker Bark

 |
|
As a result of Blueprint Denver, an integrated land use and transportation plan, the Denver City Council has unanimously passed a new zoning code for the entire metro area. The proposed code can be accessed at www.newcodedenver.org. We encourage you to become involved, explore the changes as it relates to where you live, and voice your thoughts and opinions to the City and County of Denver. |
